Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing
(NYSE: TSM) are set to unveil their first U.S.-produced semiconductor wafer
for Blackwell AI chips on Friday, Axios reports, signaling a key step in
reshoring advanced chip production.
The milestone was disclosed to Axios by Nvidia, whose CEO, Jensen Huang,
visited TSMC’s Phoenix facility to mark the announcement.
"Nvidia and TSMC are working together to build the infrastructure that powers
the world’s AI factories, right here in America," Nvidia stated in a blog
post.
In a joint statement made to Axios, the companies highlighted that "TSMC
Arizona is expected to create thousands of high-tech jobs and attract a broad
ecosystem of suppliers."
The milestone reflects progress in the Trump administration’s push to advance
domestic AI technology production and maintain leadership in artificial
intelligence development.
While this wafer production marks a crucial first step in re-establishing
critical chip production in the U.S., the country still faces a long path
before its chip demand could become independent from overseas factories and
companies.
